Headteacher's Update

Dear Parents/Guardians

As the end of this term approaches and I am preparing to move on to my second headship, I am writing to thank you for the tremendous level of support you have given to me during my time at Dyson Perrins.

It seems very strange that I only have a few days left here given that I started at the school in September 2005 as Head of English. In the twelve or so years that have followed, I have enjoyed my time at Dysons immensely and I have been particularly proud to lead the school as Headteacher since 2013.

There have been challenges along the way, and those of you who have been associated or linked with the school for a number of years will know that there was work to do with the outcomes our students were achieving and consequently with recruitment of students into our school. I would like to think that collectively we have made really good progress in these areas and that I will leave behind a thriving school which will continue to be successful for many years to come.

My time as Headteacher has been characterised by a whole school desire to do the very best we can for the students who come here to learn. I am not sure I will ever forget the moment when Ofsted deemed us to be a ‘Good’ school in 2015 or indeed the GCSE results that we have achieved in recent years. To find out that our Year 7 for 2017/18 was full to capacity meant a huge amount to me because where you choose to send your children is the biggest indicator of the faith and trust you put in us.

It feels appropriate that in my penultimate week at Dysons we are putting on a school production. The shows we have done over the last four years will live long in my memory and I am sure this week’s will be just the same. If you have not already booked a ticket for ‘Grease’, please come along as it promises to be a fun evening of entertainment.

I am confident that this year’s Year 11 and Sixth Form students will continue in the mould of improving results. They have approached all of the support, intervention and mock examinations exceptionally well so far and I look forward to hearing about the fruits of their efforts in the Summer term when the results are published.

I will miss working with my colleagues, your children and you as families but I leave the school in very safe hands. Mr Wallace will assume the role of Acting Head in the Summer term. I have worked with him for many years now and I know he will do a great job. Beyond the summer I would like to wish my successor Mike Gunston every success for the future.

Thank you again for the support you have provided, it has been a privilege to be the Headteacher of Dyson Perrins and I look forward to hearing of your achievements in the future.

Yours faithfully

Stuart Wetson
