The Curriculum at Key Stage 5
A Level Courses
We offer a wide range of A Level qualifications which are based on two years of study. We recommend students study between 3 and 4 A Level subjects. All A level qualifications are based on a linear exam at the end of two years. We also encourage students to take an Extended project qualification, which is an independent qualification students can complete based on their own areas of interest.
Students undertake a number of units for which they present evidence, based on real-life work and studies. This allows them to demonstrate their skill and knowledge in practical situations.
With a BTEC, progress is measured throughout the course, allowing students to gauge their own performance on a continuing basis. Students have to meet deadlines set by teachers. Progress is monitored individually by teachers who provide personal support and guidance, helping students develop their learning skills and reach their potential. Learning is progressive, from small-scale and simple topics to larger and more complex themes. Rules only allow for one formal set of feedback. One unit will be externally examined.
Each BTEC unit is graded individually with students being able to attain a Distinction, Merit or Pass overall.
We are introducing new Level 2 Technical Awards, these are designed to prepare students for employment. They are the same level qualification as a GCSE and are focused on skills and knowledge to prepare learners for the work place.
