Inspiring a 'Love to Learn'

The RE department at Dyson Perrins aims to deliver exciting and inspiring lessons that encourage students to develop empathy, respect and tolerance for the world we live in. As a Humanities subject RE is concerned with the study of human beliefs; we encourage students to be open minded and reflect on the many different beliefs that are held within the world.

ReglionFaithValuesThis academic subject also allows students to reflect on the impact that religious belief has on morality and ethics, whilst also deliberating on life's ultimate questions. Students are encouraged to learn from and about religion and also share their own views and opinions. We are committed to supporting every student in their quest for academic achievement and spiritual fulfilment.

As a subject area we ensure that all lessons are planned to meet the needs of the learner and offer revision sessions and extra support to help all students achieve their potential. The department also runs several trips throughout the year to encourage learning outside the classroom.

In Year 7&8 we follow the Worcestershire Agreed Syllabus and study a range of topics from death and the afterlife to religious buildings. Our study of these topics is aimed at answering big questions. For example, in Year 7 we study religious buildings with the focus on answering the question ‘Should religious buildings be sold to feed the starving?’ Year 8 follows a similar format and we study topics such as the problem of evil and suffering, arguments for the existence of God and also religious art.

In Year 9 students start to study the new AQA GCSE specification. All students are taught GCSE RE and will study the beliefs and teachings of Christianity and Islam as well as four ethical themes. The study of these units will allow students to gain one whole GCSE which will be awarded at the end of Year 11.

PhilosophyQuestionsIn Sixth form we have started to study AQA Religious Studies. This course involves the study of Philosophy and Ethics topics as well as a study of religion.

ethicsMoralStudyAn A level in Religious Studies compliments a variety of career paths and empowers the student to think about the multicultural world we live in. Religious Studies is particularly useful for students who wish to pursue careers in law, education, social work, politics, medicine, administration or the media. High level skills are developed through research, reading, essay writing and discussion. These skills are highly transferable to a number of university courses and employment. The course also enriches general knowledge and helps students develop literacy skills through essay writing.  Many of the Russell group universities see Religious Studies as a subject that promotes high level thinking skills and develops a range of other useful skills that help to prepare a student for university life.
