  • Motor competency - Develop competent students, that excel and progress in a broad range of physical activities and display fluent Motor competencies in all areas.
  • Engage all students in competitive and non-competitive sports and
activities throughout the PE curriculum. Further extension of this
within our extra curricular sports programme we have to offer.
  • Rules and Regulations - To develop knowledge and understanding of the Rules, regulations and strategies in all activities offered.
  • Physically Active -Keep our students Physically active for a sustained period of time during curricular and extra curricular activities.
  • Healthy active lifestyles - Support and educate our students on how to lead a Healthy active lifestyle.

How the aims of the PE national curriculum are met at Dyson Perrins

At Dyson Perrins CofE Academy, we encompass all three pillars of progression within our methodically planned schemes of work for all activity areas.  Opportunities for all children to meet the following aims of the national curriculum for PE are provided within all medium-term plans for each activity to target the four main aims of the PE national curriculum :

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities.
  • Are physically active for sustained periods of time.
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities.
  • Lead healthy, active lives.

Encompassing the 3 pillars of progression

1.     Motor competence
The curriculum allows the students to accurately replicate basic skills and develop the ability to fine tune these skills to suit the environment in which they are engaged. Furthermore, it also enables all students to understand that different sports demand different skill types and be able to adapt their skills to the needs of the activity. Our curriculum also enables students to be able to refine and adapt skills and techniques. The broad range of sports across the curriculum allow all students to develop the range of skills they use and develop the precision, control, and fluency of their skills. Extra-curricular activities provide further extension and enrichment to allow students to reach their full potential. The effect and impact of physical activity on the students’ mental and physical capacity in all aspects of school life is also of importance to us all.

2.     Understanding and applying rules, strategies and tactics

Our PE curriculum gives students an opportunity to explore a range of different sports and activities and develop valuable core skills required for day to day life. Through PE, the students will develop a vast knowledge base of rules and regulations from a range of different sports. Students will take on the role as performer, official and umpire, within Phase 1. This process will enable students to acquire strong leadership skills and increase confidence, resilience and empathy.

3.     Healthy participation – understanding the relationships between physical activity and its effect on the body

The learning journey in PE begins in year 7 through a rigorous multi-sports scheme of work. Students learn to understand a variety of fitness components required to successfully take part in physical activity through a variety of 13 activities. There is a clear focus on the importance of good general fitness by working at different intensities in a range of sports. This pillar is also strengthened with a specific fitness block of work throughout KS3. Students will get to experience a range of outdoor adventurous activities, which will help develop physical and mental toughness through experiences outside of the classroom.

PE mission

Our PE curriculum offers breadth and inclusivity within the programme which dedicates itself to creating an environment that allows students to understand and display these 7 core values (PERRINS) :-

  • Positive attitude
  • Enjoyment
  • Respect
  • Resilience
  • Interaction with Peers
  • Noble competitors
  • Self-belief
